JSU-122S – Part 8: Highlights

Now starts the real fun… Yesterday and today I have applied 3 coats of highlights. As a base I have used the base coat colour, but lightened it as follows:

  1. Highlight: XF-13 (J.A. Green): 8 parts + XF-4 (Yellow Green): 1 part + XF-57 (Buff): 1 Part
  2. Highlight: XF-13 (J.A. Green): 8 parts + XF-4 (Yellow Green): 2 parts + XF-57 (Buff): 2 Parts + XF-2 (Flat White): 1 part
  3. Highlight: XF-13 (J.A. Green): 8 parts + XF-4 (Yellow Green): 3 parts + XF-57 (Buff): 3 Parts + XF-2 (Flat White): 2 parts

I thinned the paint bit more than the usual 4:1 ratio of thinner vs. paint just to have little bit more control over the transparency of the highlight coats. I kept the contrast intentionally high, as can be seen from the photos. This is also my first attempt at colour modulation, so I am quite curious how will this end up. The paint job looks at this time bit weird, but this should be toned down with all the subsequent steps, primarily washes.

The first 10 photos below show the model after the second highlight, the last 4 photos are after the last, third highlight.
