Kandahar, Afghanistan
The Commander of the Joint Task Force Afghanistan, Brigadier-General Dean Milner gives two thumbs up as the convoy composed mainly of Canadian Forces Leopard II tanks, roll into their compound at Kandahar Airfield.
The return of the tanks, OP CARCAJOU SANGLIER, marks the first wave of returning vehicles to Kandahar Airfield. This signifies the beginning of the closure of the Canadian mission in Southern Afghanistan. From here the vehicles will be packaged and prepared for the return to Canada.
Operation ATHENA is Canadaâs participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. The mission of Task Force Kandahar, the Canadian-led brigade in ISAF Regional Command (South), is to set the right conditions for sustainable progress in security, governance, development and peace in the districts of Panjwa’i, Dand and Daman in Kandahar Province, in conjunction with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Afghan national security forces, and other coalition and civilian partners.
