Over the past few days, JSU was mostly sitting on my desk and for most of the time I had feeling this must have been heck of a vehicle, rather outsized compared to the most of the medium tanks wandering battlefields of WWII. A thing you wouldn’t want to meet if you are sitting in the Panzer IV…
Then few days ago I have taken out Ferdinand from the shelf with the intention of making some progress and hopefully finishing it – it is mostly built, needs some details added and photoetch parts. The usual last building steps. One thing that struck me is the relative different in size – JSU suddenly looks diminished next to Ferdinand, which must have been the real behemoth.
Both vehicles were essentially built on the chassis of a heavy tank, though in the case of Ferdinand, of the not successful design. However most of the rest are different stories.
